When you attach a .docx file to a record in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you receive the following error message:

This problem occurs because the number of characters cannot exceed 50 in the MIME-type field of the AnnotationBase table. However, the extensions of some 2007 Microsoft Office files contain more than 50 characters.

Note The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 database contains the AnnotationBase table.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Dynamics CRM service pack that contains this hotfix.

Installation information

Install this hotfix on computers that are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server components, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook components, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers server components, or the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers client for Microsoft Office Outlook components.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Professional Edition for Service Providers installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted, restart the computer after you apply the hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe tool to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000.

The Spuninst.exe tool is located in the %Windir%\$NTUninstallKB929488$\Spuninst folder.
